Day’s end on the Lake
The ever-changing Lake Tahoe. A great place to experience it is on the water. Rent a kayak, a canoe, or go for a ride on a gondola or the M.S. Dixie paddlewheel. The views of the craggy Sierra are breathtaking.
Most visitors can only get away for a three day weekend and so many say they wish they could have stayed longer. Take that as a bit of advice.. Book enough time to get invigorated or if down time is your choice, super relaxed.

It’s spring at Tahoe, summer is fast approaching, Black Bear is ready
The snow is slowly melting and Tahoe is gearing up for a beautiful spring. Time to hike, kayak, bike, walk and enjoy the pristine beauty of our world-class lake. Make it a three-dayer, make it a week or even longer. We’ve upgraded our tv service (you will find all your favorite channels) and the cabin has been freshly spring cleaned. Even our bbq is new.

Abundant snow, great reviews
So far, Tahoe, despite the pandemic is enjoying a fantastic winter season and so is the Black Bear. We are happy all our guests have been experiencing happy winter wonderland stays and the trend continues into spring. Heavenly Valley and Kirkwood ski resorts are reporting record snow days.

GOOD NEWS: ban lifted, we’re open
Due to the COVID pandemic all short term rentals in Tahoe have been closed. Happily, we just received word the ban has been lifted and Black Bear Lodge Tahoe can accept guests as of January 1. Ski resorts (Heavenly is just 10 minutes away and Kirkwood, 45 minutes) are open. Make sure to go online and reserve your place in the lift line and obey all the distancing rules.

Ski season new rules
Staying safe is what it’s all about his year and the ski resorts are implementing new rules that you should be aware of. Here are a few:
- On mountain, our vast outdoor setting makes physical distancing easy. But in the base areas and other locations where it is more difficult to do so, there will be signage and decals to ensure guests remain six feet apart.
- Guests will be required to wear face coverings in certain areas. This includes in lines, when loading and unloading chairlifts,, in indoor resort facilities, and for activities such as mountain coasters. Employees will be required to wear face coverings at all times.
- Capacity of lifts will be reduced to allow for physical distancing. Guests will only be allowed on lifts with travelers in their party.
- Employees may limit the number of guests in any area of the resort to ensure proper physical distancing (e.g. parking lots, indoor facilities, common spaces, etc.).
Heavenly Valley Ski Resort’s (10 minutes away from the Black Bear) message:
With our Pass Holder reservation system, you can rest assured knowing you will have the space you need when you visit our resorts this winter. The reservation system is exclusive to Pass Holders through Dec. 7 and is now live. Lock in your Priority Reservation Days and early season skiing and riding. Excitement is high, and we anticipate our reservation system will be busy during these first few days. To help you navigate our site on the busiest days, we’ve implemented an online waiting room.
Don’t feel like waiting? There is no need to rush to reserve your Priority Reservation Days. We designed this exclusive month-long booking window to accommodate our Pass Holders’ requests, and we are confident that you will be able to reserve your days for the core season before lift tickets go on sale Dec. 8.

Our back meadow has room to roam
This is the view from our back deck. If you keep walking you get to the Upper Truckee River that eventually joins pristine Lake Tahoe. This area is private, a perfect place where kids can play and leashed dogs can run. When winter arrives, get out your cross country skis, snowshoes, build a snowman or stay indoors by our cozy fire.

Escape to Tahoe Now!
It’s almost shoulder season (the time when most tourists don’t visit) and there’s still some activity at the ski resorts. Emerald Bay’s (pictured) trail to it’s pristine shoreline will soon be open. Nearby Pope and Kiva beaches you’ll have practically to yourself. Wilflowers will be popping up and you’ll thank yourself you took the opportunity to get away.
